Yeah, yeah… so I’ve got ten opinions here that, depending on who you are, may offend, may make you laugh, may make you shake your head in shame, may make you nod your head in agreement, or may cause an argument. So without further ado…
10. Alice In Chains and Soundgarden are MUCH better than Nirvana and Pearl Jam
9. Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio was better than Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osbourne
8. Right now, I’d rather have Sammy Hagar in Van Halen (I see what you did there :-))
7. I’m a McCartney kinda guy instead of a Lennon kinda guy
6. Modern rock radio (or whatever you want to call it) sucks
5. Funk music NEEDS to make a comeback
4. The music industry itself (NOT GRUNGE) killed hair metal
3. There will NEVER be as dymanic or dangerous a live band as THE WHO from 1968-1973
2. Metallica’s Black Album is overrated
1. “Country rap” is the worst music EVER

10. Nah, I’m evenly enamored with all 4, though Pearl Jam will never top their debut, AIC lost a lot of magic without Staley, and no Nirvana without Cobain anyway to see what might’ve been – though likely not much more anyway at that level. Soundgarden seemingly never lost a step, though.
9. I call it even here, too.
8. Obviously, though Sammy has none of Dave’s mystique. None. But vocally, it’s clearly a no brainer.
7. McCartney. I’m a sucker for melodies.
6. Completely agree 100%. Can barely listen to most of it.
5. Hell yeah. Man, do I miss Shag! Even RHCP aren’t funk anymore!
4. Yup. MTV ended hair metal just as they almost invented it. YO MTV RAPS! Not to mention all the dance pop queens. Ugh.
3. ABSOLUTELY 100% YES!
2. Only for the fact that it’s maybe their SIXTH best album, HAHA! (Which is still way better than most bands, frankly.)
1. Hard to argue that one. At least Josh Groban possesses talent! 😉

Nothing knocked me out like “Loud Love” did when it was first released, and same goes with “Dirt”. Never got that feeling with any releases from PJ or Nirvana- some good to great songs but as a whole I liked more of those darker, metallic moments from SG and AIC. As for Dio Sabbath over Ozzy… really two different bands but I prefer the straight, no nonsense take no prisoners approach of the Dio years to the more experimental period with Ozzy. Apples and oranges there but if I could take only one Sab disc to a desert island it would be “Heaven And Hell”.

I’m probably in agreement about Heaven and Hell being the one disc I’d take if I had to choose one Sabbath album. Massively tough call, but if I ran with my gut, that’d probably be it.
I’d have to classify first hearing Pearl Jam’s Alive as an absolutely seminal moment for me. It took a year for Nirvana to really sink in for me, but once it did, the hooks dug in for good.
Loud Love is still my fave Soundgarden record. Raw and scary with Cornell off the charts.
